Something new is happening at this year’s Detour Dance Festival.
For the first time, we’re presenting full-length dance performances – giving each artist the space to unfold their vision from beginning to end. This also means that each performance requires its own ticket.
The festival takes place at Dansehallerne from December 2nd to December 7th, 2025.
Part of the program is now live at Dansehallerne.dk, so take a look and start planning which performances you want to see – tickets will be on sale soon.
WE’RE PROUD TO PRESENT;
KONG
KONG by Oulouy 4th and 5 th of Dec – 40 mins https://dansehallerne.dk/da/publikumsprogram/forestilling/19698/
Directed by visionary choreographer Oulouy, KONG is a beastly work that denounces imperialism and colonialism, performed by the Ivorian street dance icon Ordinateur, with the direct participation from Namibia of the multidisciplinary artist xamques. A manifesto where image and sound come together powerfully to deliver a performance rich in satire and symbolism, featuring a choreographic display that pushes the limits of a single movement’s potential.
BLACK
BLACK by Oulouy 3rd, 4th and 5 th of Dec – 30 min + artist talk after https://dansehallerne.dk/da/publikumsprogram/forestilling/19764/
‘Black’ is a reflection on the violence and emancipation of blackness in today’s world, through a body that challenges and disturbs, a body that is both wounded and celebrated. Using a set devoid of artifice and brimming with symbolism, choreographer and performer Oulouy hints at recent history such as the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the murder of George Floyd to rethink the Black African body in the Western world.
‘Black’ is a dance, a visual and musical chronicle, narrated through street dance styles of the African continent and its diaspora in the USA, such as Coupé-Décalé, Ndomboló, Afrohouse or Krump.
STUCK
STUCK by Mounia Nassangar 6th of Dec – 50 mins
https://dansehallerne.dk/en/public-program/performance/19760/
With STUCK , Mounia Nassangar signs her first choreographic piece. Through the prism of the sensitive, she reveals the culture of whacking in a different way and explores the capacity of dance to take over from a failing speech.
With their bodies and stories, the 5 performers on stage each embody, through their flesh and gestures, the living memory of a dance of urgency and expression born of oppression.
Phakathi Inside
Phakathi Inside by Joanna Holewa Chrona 7 th of Dec – 40 mins https://dansehallerne.dk/en/public-program/performance/19796/
Joanna Holewa Chrona’s first solo work, Phakathi Inside, is a personal odyssey—a return to the inner body and the force that dwells within. The piece explores both physical and spiritual dimensions, amplifying the manifestation of an inner avatar: an embodiment of a powerful spirit in physical form.
Through a unique approach to self and movement, Joanna investigates the purpose of dance as a vessel for navigating life’s peaks and valleys.
What unfolds when we discover that the magic resides within us—and that our true superpower lies in the art of transmutation?
As Joanna’s avatar embarks on her journey, the room itself transforms, enveloped in light and sound that highlight her essence and presence.
Slow, intricate movements merge with bursts of restrained volcanic energy, giving shape to the life that animates the physical body.
In this work, Joanna continues her long-standing creative exchange with South African artists and culture, a relationship that began in 2015. Phakathi Inside features South African-inspired electronic music with lyrics in isiXhosa, sung by Ntsika Fana Nxganga.
The title Phakathi Inside is South African slang that blends isiZulu and English, and loosely translates to “deep inside.”
We can’t wait to share these in-depth dance experiences with you.
